The word Karate has become synonymous with martial arts. Karate is indigenous to Okinawa. The island was subjugated by Japan who adopted the self-defense style and gave it the name Karate. There are differences between Japanese karate and traditional Okinawan karate. Cascade Village Karate teaches Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu Koeppel Ha. Our intention is to preserve traditional Okinawan karate as it was taught and handed down through the Matsumura family.
Students learn to move and breathe with precise intentions. Anyone can learn karate. The movements are natural and the discipline that one develops builds confidence and a sense of fulfillment that expands to other pursuits in life as well.
The application of the self-defense is learned through closely guided interaction with fellow students. Learning distance and flow of movements as it relates to aggression are practiced with control until confidence is established.
